I made the pictured pen for my son, who is a software developer. That is a real printed circuit board that has been encased in clear acrylic. No, I do not cast the circuit board in acrylic myself. That process is far to dangerous for me to do at home. The back side of the circuit board must first be sanded to paper thinness so it can be folded around a central brass tube. This releases several toxic substances that must be contained and disposed of in a responsible manner. When I get them, they are rough blocks of acrylic with the board mounted within. I turn the acrylic blank on my lathe to the correct size and shape, then polish it to a high gloss and assemble it into the pen. The result is a real conversation piece. This circuit board nicely complements the gold trim of the pen. The body of the pen twists to extend the Parker-style refill. I use only the highest quality refill - the easyFlow 9000 made by Schmidt in Germany.
