The body of this pen is Zebrawood (Microberlinia), so named because of the prominent striping of the wood. This tree is native to Central Africa and tends to grow in large strands along riverbanks. These trees grow up to150 feet high with trunk diameters of 4 to 5 feet. Zebrawood is a hard, heavy wood and although difficult to work with, its striking appearance makes it popular for decorative items and trim work. Prada's flagship Manhattan store, opening in 2002 extensively used Zebrawood.
I placed this wood on a classic Euro II pen design, which uses a Parker-style refills. The titanium gold trim nicely accents the golden tones of the Zebrawood.
