There is a story behind these pens. My father-in-law was a Navy veteran of WWII. When he passed-away he had an honor guard at his service and he was given a 21-gun salute. The cartridge shell seen here is one of the 30-06 blanks fired during the salute. I then had someone with the proper tooling insert a drilled-out bullet and solder a twist pen mechanism into the base of the shell. The shell was also polished and powder-coated it so it will not tarnish. I then took this converted shell cartridge and crafted the body for the top half of the pen. The story continues.

My mother-in-law was an avid bowler right up to the end. The upper half of the pen you see here is made from her bowling ball. I was able to cut open her bowling ball on my bandsaw and remove part of the poly-resin outer shell. I then turned this piece to the correct size and shape on my lathe and polished it to a high gloss. The clip and finial of these pens are plated with titanium gold.  I hope the resulting pens will be treasured as family heirlooms for generations to come.
